An Academic Integrity Pledge is a pledge built on honesty, respect, and fairness. Students, faculty, and staff at UVic are members of an intellectual community. As such, it is expected that we will adhere to ethical values in all our learning, teaching and research. By signing or completing the pledge in various ways, you are agreeing to behave and conduct yourself ethically while engaging in your academics.

In all your course work, including exams, you must abide by UVic’s Academic Integrity Policy. Please make sure you are familiar with what is expected of you and contact your instructor if you have any questions. If you are interested in learning more about academic integrity, you can also self-enrol in the Integrity Matters course in Brightspace. Search for this course under the Discover tab on your Brightspace homepage.

Some of your instructors may ask you to submit an academic integrity pledge before you are able to access your exam. Check out the Academic Integrity Pledge included in the Online Exams module in the Brightspace course 2020 Student Guide to Online Learning to find out what this looks like.

The pledge can appear in a few ways within your course:

  1. As a question on the exam. Usually, this would be the first question of the exam that asks you to confirm that you will uphold academic integrity while taking the exam.
  2. As a prerequisite assignment/activity/page. In Brightspace, there are conditions that your instructor can set that will prevent you from viewing your exam until those conditions are met. Perhaps they will require you to take a survey as the pledge, and once you have completed it and agreed to its terms, the exam will become available to you.
