Zoom serves as a live virtual classroom and online meeting space for instructors and students. It provides real-time audio and video, real-time chat, screen sharing and whiteboard, annotations, polls, breakout rooms, and recording.  You can use Zoom by itself or directly within your Brightspace course.

 

Some of the ways instructors may use Zoom include:

  • Hosting live online lectures (up to 300 students)
  • Create an post a live session link in a Brightspace course
  • Online office hours
  • Live tutorials
  • Guest speakers
  • Recording lectures to post in Brightspace
  • Virtual student presentations and small-group breakout discussions

  • Connect with your LTSI Support Team for ideas related to teaching with Zoom (email: ltsi2020@uvic.ca)
  • Helpdesk Technical Support – As of July, you can now contact the Computer Help Desk via telephone (250-721-7687 or Toll-free 1-844-721-7687) and email (helpdesk@uvic.ca) from 8 AM to 11 PM on weekdays, 10 AM to 10 PM on weekends, and 10 AM to 6 PM on statutory holidays. If instructors call Helpdesk, they can arrange for an AV specialist to jump into their Zoom session to help troubleshoot issues.
