Provide a weekly update for students to recap the past week and highlight upcoming important activities or assessments
Why use weekly updates
- Help keep students engaged and on track. This sets the tone for the week and can be a great way to make sure students know any important information for what is happening during the week. This might include the topic, what important dates are coming up. Help students keep engaged and on track
- Make a connection. Share an image or a video or just a simple hello helps create instructor presence – or the sense this is is a course and much more than information on a webpage.
- Share important information with your learners. Provide news such as cancellations, reminders, or timely supports.
There are two main ways to post weekly introductions and updates in Brightspace:
Announcements
Course Announcements: Announcements from the course instructor appear on the homepage of the course. After students log in to Brightspace for the first time, announcements are automatically sent to your email to help you keep up to date in the course. (Learn More)
Activity Feed
Activity Feed: Add an activity feed to create a central place for users to engage and stay up-to-date on what’s happening in their course Activity feed is similar to announcements, but you can easily attach existing content to help students know what is happening this week – you can also allow (on a post by post basis) whether students can comment or reply right on the course homepage. Note: the activity feed updates are not automatically emailed to students (Learn more)
