This year’s theme, Student Academic Success by Design: Merging Rigour with Inclusion in Education, invites the sharing of innovative practices, insights, and research that connect teaching excellence with accessible pedagogical practices. This event will emphasize intentional, evidence-based teaching practices that promote academic excellence in equitable learning experiences.

Who can apply?

Faculty, staff, and educational developers are invited to propose a presentation.

Accessibility

LTSI strives to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals to engage fully. To request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility, please contact Nico De Marco at ltsioffice@uvic.ca or 250-721-8571.

Applicants are invited to propose:

45-minute sessions showcasing innovative practices, lessons learned, and research-based strategies that prioritize deliberate course design to support student success.

Presentations should address one or more of the following key themes

Deliberate and Inclusive Course Design
Strategies that ensure accessibility and engagement for diverse student populations, aligning with UVic’s commitment to removing barriers and fostering access-centred teaching and learning as outlined in the Accessibility Plan.

Assessment for Learning
Techniques for designing meaningful, rigorous and inclusive assessments that support student growth and success.

Innovative Teaching Approaches
Examples of active learning, flipped classrooms, or blended learning models that enhance student engagement.

Creating a Sense of Belonging
Course design and teaching strategies that foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment and reflect the principles in UVic’s Indigenous Plan, which emphasizes embedding Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and learning into programs and systems.

Lessons from Practice
Reflections on challenges and successes in designing student-centered learning experiences.

We look forward to your contributions in shaping an enriching and collaborative event that highlights the power of deliberate design in creating rigorous, inclusive learning experiences. For inquiries, please contact ltsioffice@uvic.ca

As John Hattie (2012) emphasizes in his work on visible learning, “the greatest effects on student learning occur when teachers become learners of their own teaching” (p. 18). Effective teaching requires intentional design, with clear goals and inclusive strategies that ensure all students can thrive.
