Overview
Join us for a four-day workshop designed to enhance teaching effectiveness of new and experienced educators. During the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW), you will design and conduct three “mini-lessons” within a small group. Participants actively engage with colleagues when receiving and sharing lesson feedback to enhance their teaching and student learning.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Using an intensive experiential learning approach, you will develop a collection of instructional resources and learn to confidently implement a structured lesson plan. The ISW introduces the theory and practice of teaching, the selection of useful intended learning outcomes and lesson plans, steps for increasing classroom participation and suggestions for learning evaluation. During the workshop, we encourage self-reflection, examination ofpersonal teaching practices and will focus feedback on learning processes over specific lesson content. The ISW focuses on participatory learning and a sense of community that can be transferred to the classroom and the greater institution. You will also engage and build relationships with your peers through team building opportunities and learn new approaches to working with others.
“ISW is similar to life; both make learning possible through experience.” -Lucía Anaya
Please note: This is a certificate program for instructors and sessionals only (not graduate students, unless sessionals). You will be awarded a certificate once you have completed the program.
