What is a supplemental instructor?

A supplemental instructor (SI) is a role in Brightspace that has all of the same permissions as an instructor, except for enrolling users. In most cases, only one instructor can be added to a Brightspace course. This individual is the instructor of record in UVic’s Banner system, and is the sole recipient responsible for enrolling users in order to ensure the privacy and security of all individuals in the course.

When more than one instructor needs to be added to a course, this can be done by assigning an SI role. An instructor has permission to add an SI to their course, and can do this by enrolling users.
