Background

Our goal is to support the UVic community by helping deliver high-quality, effective learning and teaching experiences. If you are developing a non-credit training program, course or module or require support as a UVic non-faculty staff member, an LTSI Service Level Agreement (SLA) may be required.

When is an SLA required?

The Division of Learning and Teaching Support and Innovation (LTSI) has a mandate to support instructors in learning and teaching and the delivery of credit-based courses. An SLA is required when LTSI support extends beyond the scope of general consultation for credit-based courses and involves more comprehensive, hands-on services for courses, training modules or programs that are non-credit based. An SLA formalizes the partnership, detailing the responsibilities, timelines, and expectations for both parties to ensure effective project completion.

Core services we offer

We cover a wide range of services, including but not limited to the following:

=

Project planning

Support in understanding your project and goals, including scoping, timelines and deliverables.

=

Assistance in managing permissions, troubleshooting, and bulk enrollment for non-credit courses. We also offer support for large-scale enrollments as needed.

=

Content editing and design

Support to refine and present your course or training materials for greater impact, including advice on accessibility and the integration of multimedia tools.

=

Course review

Comprehensive support for reviewing and revising existing courses or training materials, implementing current practices and the latest research to suggest improvements in course or training design.

=

Full course or training design and development

From needs analysis to course building and post-launch reviews, we support the entire lifecycle of course development and major revisions.

=

Integration and training on learning technologies

Support integrating course materials or resources in our UVic learning technologies: Brightspace, Echo360, Crowdmark, Online Academic Community, etc.

=

Program design and development

Creation of comprehensive educational programs, including micro-credentials and training programs: from defining objectives to designing cohesive curricula and planning for implementation. We also offer implementation training support for larger teams.

The typical fee for our services listed above are approximately $75.00/hour. We will provide estimates of hours required based upon consultation.

Examples of existing SLAs

In the following two projects, we assisted clients with project scoping, provision of course design tools and resources, creation of interactive modules and content development, evaluation and feedback in response to user surveys.

Privacy training module

This project was provided in annual staff and instructor/faculty training and included a full development of 3 modules, as well as revision of 2 modules.

Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHSE) course redesign

This project redesigned specific courses over to Brightspace, including “Addressing Bullying, Harassment & Discrimination Complaints – Supervisors”; “Compressed Gas Cylinders: Safe Handling & Use”; and “Lab Safety for Non-Lab Workers”. We also explored accordion webpages, explored completion tracking, self-enrollment, and certification.

Complimentary consult – needs analysis

With any of our services, we include a complimentary consult and needs analysis with you and your team to discuss your course, site or project. We will use the time to guide you through options and approaches including: design, tool selection, accessibility standards, and best practices for content delivery.
