Our three themes

This year’s annual report focuses on three key themes, showcasing our progress in advancing teaching, learning, and support at UVic. A few highlighted projects are listed in each.

Strengthening infrastructure for adaptive curriculum and learning

We refined work portfolios, including the creation of the Curriculum & Teaching Innovation unit, to align with strategic priorities. Efforts to streamline grant management simplified processes for faculty, while the Course Outline Brightspace Integration project enhanced course management and accessibility. Additionally, a joint committee with the Centre for Accessible Learning fostered collaboration on accessibility initiatives.

Leveraging evidence to inform student and faculty initiatives

The Student Learning Technological Needs Survey and Math and Stats Impact Study informed strategies to improve access to technology and enhance support for foundational courses. Initiatives like tutor training updates, refinements to Arbutus Review, GenAI workshops, and the Academic Integrity 101 module provided focused learning supports and ethical guidance, ensuring faculty and students benefit from evidence-based improvements.

Cultivating peer learning and collaborative engagement

The redesigned UVicLearn website offers essential resources to empower students in their academic journey. New communities of practice focused on accessibility, SoTL, and Generative AI foster collaboration among faculty, while a streamlined TA Welcome Day and workshops like the LTSI & Friends Fair support mentorship and resource sharing.

Going forward

As we look ahead, our focus remains on advancing teaching, learning, and support at UVic through the following initiatives:

Refining our vision and strategic focus

We will define our vision, values, and strategic priorities, while prioritizing professional development in areas like GenAI, accessibility, and Indigenous pedagogy.

Expanding faculty engagement and support

Increased outreach and tailored workshops will strengthen connections with departments and enhance faculty development initiatives.

Advancing SoTL and research

We will address key educational challenges through expanded SoTL initiatives and applied research, such as the MSAC study.

Enhancing accessibility and inclusive learning

Updates to resources like Integrity in Practice and UDL guides will support inclusive teaching and empower the use of GenAI tools.
