Let’s Talk About Teaching
Call For Proposals | Fall 2024

About Let's Talk About Teaching (LTAT)

UVic’s LTAT events create a space for peer-to-peer conversations on current pedagogical trends and innovative teaching practices to enhance student learning.

This year's focus

For our Fall 2024 LTAT event the Division of Learning and Teaching Support and Innovation (LTSI) is hosting a multi-access series of presentations on Friday, November 22, 2024 highlighting teaching innovation at the University of Victoria.

LTSI is seeking submissions from UVic educators who are leading the way in implementing innovative teaching practices in their courses and creating dynamic learning experiences for students. We encourage submissions that reflect on the current pedagogical landscape of post-secondary education in areas including but not limited to accessibility, technology integration and experiential learning.

Application timeline

Proposal submission deadline:
Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 11:59pm PST

Successful candidate notification:
Tuesday, October 22, 2024

Conference:
Friday, November 22, 2024
Virtual and in person
1 to 4 pm

Note: The LTAT planning committee is also seeking adjudicators to review proposal submissions. Faculty and sessional instructors are invited to contact ltsioffice@uvic.ca to express their interest.

This year's format

Faculty and instructors are invited to submit proposals for one of two session formats:

Discover Sessions (50 minutes)

Longer-form sessions where facilitators and participants investigate a particular topic. We seek proposals for single-paper presentations, facilitated discussions, etc. We encourage sessions with interactive components.

Lightning Talks (10 minutes)

Short-form talks to showcase a teaching strategy, innovative idea, personal experience, piece of advice, research finding, etc. Lighting talks will be grouped by theme with the goal of sparking conversations and connections.

Proposal adjudication

Not all proposals can be accepted due to constraints on time and space. We will contact both accepted and declined proposals in October 2024. Proposals will be adjudicated based on:

  • contribution to teaching and learning at UVic
  • relevance to the theme

We encourage proposals from all UVic educators. Proposals from faculty and sessional instructors will be given preference. However, we encourage graduate students and teaching assistants to apply. If there is enough interest from graduate students and teaching assistants, we hope to schedule a specific stream for these sessions

Accessibility

We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals to engage fully. To request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility, please contact Chloe Johnston at ltsioffice@uvic.ca or 250-721-8571.
