1. An instructor has two options regarding time for a quiz. An instructor can have a Recommended Time Limit or an Enforced Time Limit.
2. Recommended Time Limit is used when the learners are given as much time as they need to complete a quiz. The time is a recommendation but not a requirement, so it is used as a time-management guide. Select Show clock to allow learners to see the time elapsed.
3. An Enforced Time Limit is used when the quiz must be finished in a certain amount of time. Once the user clicks “Start Quiz”, their timer will begin. They will have as much time as the instructor assigned under Time Limit, plus a Grace Period. The Grace Period cannot be zero.
4. An instructor can assign the behavior of a quiz once the time limit and grace period have been exceeded. Under Exceeded Time Limit Behaviour, the options are:
- Allow the students to continue working,
- Learners can keep working and submit their quiz after the time limit is exceeded.
- Prevent the student from making further changes,
- Learners are locked from inputting answers and can only submit the quiz.
- Allow the student to continue working, but automatically score the attempt as zero after an extended deadline.
- If selected, a new option appears to set an Extended Deadline which starts after the grace period.
- If the learner does not submit before the Extended Deadline passes, the learner will automatically be graded 0 on the quiz.
Note on Due Date and End Date: If a learner clicks “Start Quiz” before the Due Date, the learner has as much time as the instructor enforced to complete and submit the quiz. That means if an instructor has a Due Date for a quiz at 11:30pm September 30th 2020, with an enforced time limit of 120 minutes with 5 minutes of grace period, a learner can start the quiz at 11:29pm September 30th 2020 and submit the quiz at 1:34am October 1st 2020, while still being considered on time. The same rules apply to the End Date. That means the Due Date and End Date are the last possible time to start the quiz without the submission being considered late, and the last possible time to start the quiz at all, respectively.
